{"id":6505,"date":"2010-07-30T10:16:22","date_gmt":"2010-07-30T14:16:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs-devl.bu.edu\/bunow\/?p=6505"},"modified":"2010-07-30T10:16:22","modified_gmt":"2010-07-30T14:16:22","slug":"textbook-rental-program-coming-to-bu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs-devl.bu.edu\/bunow\/2010\/07\/30\/textbook-rental-program-coming-to-bu\/","title":{"rendered":"Textbook rental program coming to BU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-6510\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-devl.bu.edu\/bunow\/files\/2010\/07\/textbooks2-150x150.gif\" alt=\"textbooks\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs-devl.bu.edu\/bunow\/files\/2010\/07\/textbooks2-150x150.gif 150w, https:\/\/blogs-devl.bu.edu\/bunow\/files\/2010\/07\/textbooks2-300x297.gif 300w, https:\/\/blogs-devl.bu.edu\/bunow\/files\/2010\/07\/textbooks2.gif 353w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>Beginning in the fall, Boston University will give students a new lease on their sometimes budget-focused, hectic lives\u00a0by offering a new textbook rental program designed to deliver maximum savings and convenience.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black\">Designed by BU administrators and Barnes &amp; Noble College Booksellers, the innovative rental program will allow students to rent their textbooks for less than 50 percent of the cost of purchasing a new book. \u00a0Students will be able to rent books from Barnes &amp; Noble at Boston University or from the bookstore\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/bu.bncollege.com\/webapp\/wcs\/stores\/servlet\/BNCBHomePage?storeId=13555&amp;catalogId=10001\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Other features of the rental program include:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Symbol\">\u00b7<\/span><span> <\/span> Students can pay the rental fees using any form of tender currently accepted by the bookstore \u2013 including student financial aid and campus debit cards.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Symbol\">\u00b7<\/span><span> <\/span> Students can highlight or mark the rented books just as they would if they purchased a book and planned to sell it back to the bookstore.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Symbol\">\u00b7<\/span><span> <\/span> Students have the option to convert their rental to a purchase during the first two weeks of class.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Symbol\">\u00b7<\/span><span> <\/span> The rental period is for the duration of the term\/semester. Books are due back at the bookstore no later than 10 days after the last day of finals.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Symbol\">\u00b7<\/span><span> <\/span> Courtesy emails will go out as the end of the term\/semester approaches reminding students to return their books. Books not returned, or returned in unusable condition, will be subject to replacement and processing fees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBarnes &amp; Noble began piloting the rental program earlier this year at 25 campus bookstores across the country,\u201d said Paul Maloney, Territory Vice President for Barnes &amp; Noble.\u00a0 \u201cThe response from students where the program was piloted was tremendous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In particular, students liked having the option of getting their books immediately \u2013 as opposed to waiting for a shipment to arrive \u2013 and they appreciated knowing that the books they were renting were guaranteed to be the right books for the classes.\u00a0 More than 90 percent of the students surveyed said they would rent from their campus bookstore again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Beginning in the fall, Boston University will give students a new lease on their sometimes budget-focused, hectic lives\u00a0by offering a new textbook rental program designed to deliver maximum savings and convenience.
