The School of Education (SED) will host their annual Junior Pinning ceremony tonight at 7:30 PM in SMG 105. SED established the event to honor students as they enter the final professional coursework of their academic programs and to provide an opportunity for those students to celebrate their commitment to the education profession. During this ceremony, the junior class will affirm their dedication to the profession by reciting the Boston University Educators’ Affirmation and hear an address from guest speaker Greg Forbes Siegman. Families of our juniors , faculty, staff and alumni are invited to attend the dinner and ceremony.

Harold Burson
Harold Burson, one of the world's most successful public relations practitioners, will be honored Friday, February 18 when Boston University's College of Communication (COM) helps him celebrate his 90th birthday with a symposium beginning at 1 p.m. in the Colloquium Room of the Photonics Center (8 St. Mary’s Street, Boston). The event is free and open to the public.
Burson co-founded Burson-Marsteller, a leading public relations agency, with Bill Marsteller in 1953 and has been credited with introducing integrated communication marketing to public relations practice. Throughout his career, Burson has supported public relations research and education, developing training programs and mentoring young professionals. His company has a long history of collaboration with BU and has hired many Boston University COM graduates. He also is responsible for funding the Harold Burson Professor and Chair in Public Relations at COM.
In 2000, PR Week named Burson as “the century’s most influential PR figure” in recognition of a culmination of more than 50 years of service as a counselor to and confidante of corporate CEOs, government leaders and heads of public sector institutions.
The highlight of BU's birthday celebration will consist of a speech by Burson and he will be recognized and honored through remarks by COM students, alumni and faculty.

CAS Junior Kerin Riley left for Dublin on January 20 for 4 months to study at Dublin City University and intern at an international law firm. Riley is chronicling her experiences, good and bad, on her blog The Life of [Kerin] Riley which hosts messages to family and friends at home, pictures from her travels, musing on life, school and living abroad and reflections on gaeilge culture. We will be hosting posts from The Life of [Kerin] Riley throughout the semester to showcase what life is like for BU students studying abroad.

On what many fans call the biggest stage in college sports, the Boston University men's basketball team will square off against the Albany Great Danes tonight at Madison Square Garden. With tip-off set for 9:30 p.m, the Terriers (12-13, 7-4 AE) will be competing in the first-ever America East match-up at MSG.

The Boston University School of Education, College of Communication and on-campus high school, Boston University Academy, are hosting a screening of the critically acclaimed documentary “Race to Nowhere: The Dark Side of America’s Achievement Culture" tonight at 7 PM in the Tsai Performance Center. The film screening is free and open to the public; tickets are first come, first served at the door.

The College of Communication is hosting a lecture by Lauren Zalaznick, Chairman of the NBC Universal Entertainment & Digital Networks and Integrated Media. One of Fortune's "50 Most Powerful Women," Zalaznick will discuss how she went from indie producer to corporate executive with chefs, housewives and celeb moms today from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM in the SMG Executive Dining Room (4th Floor). The BUAG at the Stone Gallery premieres Three Artists at the Caversham Press tomorrow, presented concurrently with South Africa: Artists, Prints, Comunity/ Twenty Five Years at the Caversham Press at the 808 Gallery. Three Artists showcases Deborah Bell, Robert Hogins and William Kentridge, three South African artists that were instrumental in early years of the Caversham Press. Both exhibitions begins today, with an opening reception on Thursday, February 10 at 6PM. The openings and exhibitions are free and open to the public.

Men’s hockey will play Boston College at the Garden tonight at 8 PM after Harvard and Northeastern face off at 5 PM. Couldn't get tickets? BU Today will be live Tweeting from the game using #BUBeanpot streaming on their homepage. Both games will also be televised live in HD on NESN (channel 35 in the dorms). Go terriers!

The Boston University (BU) College of Communication (COM) has announced the finalists for the 2011 Redstone Film Festival. Finalists will complete for first, second and third place, and winners will be announced at the screening event, Wednesday, February 9th at 7:00 p.m. at BU’s Tsai Performance Center (685 Commonwealth Ave., Boston).
Open to the public, admission for the popular event is free and seating is on a first come, first serve basis.

We will be screening a winning short by one of our alumni to be selected by a faculty panel.”
On April 1, 2011, the Redstone Festival travels to Los Angeles where student films compete again for a West Coast-based panel of judges. In addition, COM has announced a new “Best Alumni Short” category for the Los Angeles competition. To qualify, films must have been produced or directed by a BU Alum post-graduation. The running length must be no longer than 30 minutes and must be on DVD format (Blu-Ray preferred). The deadline for entry into the Alumni category is February 25, 2011.
